The Vice President, Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, today, January 22, 2026, paid a working visit to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations as part of the government's ongoing engagement with key sectors driving national development.

During the visit, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Honourable Samuel Nartey George, highlighted major achievements recorded by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) over the past 12 months. According to the Minister, GIFEC successfully completed 224 rural telephony sites providing voice and data to over 500 new communities significantly improving access to communication infrastructure in the unserved and underserved areas.

The Minister further noted that 2,000 girls were trained last year under the Girls in ICT initiative, aimed at equipping young females with essential digital skills and promoting their participation in the technology sector. He added that GIFEC shall provide critical resources to support the government’s flagship programme dubbed the One Million Coders Programme, reinforcing national efforts to build a digitally skilled workforce.

Looking ahead, the Minister announced plans to train an additional 3,000 girls under the Girls in ICT project this year, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to digital inclusion, gender empowerment, and innovation-driven growth. The Vice President commended the Ministry and its agencies for their progress and encouraged sustained collaboration to accelerate digital transformation and ensure that the benefits of technology reach all Ghanaians
