On 4th March, 2026, Ghana and Malawi held bilateral talks to deepen their digital partnership following strategic engagements at this year’s Mobile World Congress(MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. On the sidelines of the global technology summit, The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, held bilateral talks with Malawi’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr. Shadric Namalomba, to identify practical steps for accelerating digital transformation in both countries.

The meeting went beyond formal discussions as the two Ministers exchanged ideas on expanding digital infrastructure, improving connectivity in unserved and underserved communities, and promoting innovation-led development. A key highlight of the engagement was a detailed conversation on universal access, with Ghana sharing insights into the work of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

Malawi expressed strong interest in understanding how #GIFECGhana is financed and sustained, and requested Ghana to share its model as a possible benchmark for strengthening universal access initiatives in their country. Both sides agreed to facilitate exchange visits between technical teams and to share documentation outlining progress made in digital infrastructure deployment and policy frameworks.

Also present at the meeting was GIFEC’s Director for Corporate Affairs, Ms. Francisca Adjei, reinforcing the Fund’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and supporting knowledge-sharing partnerships across Africa. This engagement reflects a shared determination to build a digitally inclusive Africa through collaboration, transparency, and strategic investment in infrastructure
