The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, joined the Acting Administrator of GIFEC, Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid-Computer, and other distinguished dignitaries to celebrate the National Girls in ICT Day Mentorship and Climax events for the Upper West Region, held at the Fanco Hospitality Hotel in Wa on 6th and 7th October 2025..

The two-day event marked the successful completion of 3-week training for 1,000 young girls from the region. It provided an inspiring platform to empower the girls with essential digital skills and knowledge while motivating them to pursue future careers in the field of Information and Communication Technology.

Hon. Sukparu, in his remarks, commended the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and its implementing agencies, particularly GIFEC, for their continuous efforts in promoting digital inclusion and bridging the gender gap in ICT. He encouraged the girls to embrace technology as a tool for innovation and national development. The climax of the event featured a colourful awards ceremony, where the top three outstanding girls were honoured with laptops and cash prizes for their exceptional performance during the training and competition phase of the programme. The event was also graced by regional officials, representatives from partner organisations, educators, and parents, all of whom expressed enthusiasm about the positive impact of the initiative in shaping the digital future of young girls in rural and underserved communities.
