GIFEC Inspects Rural Telephony Facilities in Sekyere Afram Plains

October 13, 2026 GIFEC Communications Inspection

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) on October 13, 2026, joined the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, MP, for the second and final day of the Minister’s Ashanti Regional monitoring tour, focusing on the inspection of rural telephony infrastructure in the Sekyere Afram Plains District. The delegation, which included the Administrator of GIFEC, Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid-Computer, visited Nyameanema No. 1, Nyameanema No. 2, Dawia and Abenua to assess the status of ongoing and completed works under the Rural Telephony Project.

The field visits formed part of efforts to independently verify project implementation, assess infrastructure delivery on the ground and identify any outstanding issues requiring attention. The exercise also reinforces GIFEC’s commitment to accountability, quality assurance and the effective delivery of digital connectivity infrastructure to underserved and unserved communities. During the tour, the Minister and his delegation paid courtesy calls on the chiefs of the respective communities and engaged with the District Chief Executive (DCE), providing an opportunity to discuss local connectivity needs, community development priorities and the importance of reliable telecommunications services in promoting socio-economic growth.

For GIFEC, the exercise underscores the importance of direct field monitoring in ensuring that investments in rural telecommunications translate into tangible benefits for communities. Improved connectivity is essential for expanding access to digital services, supporting education, facilitating business activities and strengthening communication across rural Ghana. The inspection also forms part of broader efforts to address connectivity gaps and ensure that rural communities are not left behind as Ghana advances its digital transformation agenda.

Through its Rural Telephony Project and other universal access initiatives, GIFEC continues to work towards bridging the digital divide by extending telecommunications infrastructure to communities that would otherwise remain underserved due to geographical and commercial constraints.

The conclusion of the Ashanti Regional tour reaffirms the importance of collaboration among the Ministry, GIFEC, local authorities, traditional leaders and other stakeholders in ensuring effective project implementation and sustainable digital inclusion.
